Recap

Goulburn U15s run in a cricket score against Barbarians

By JASON MORONEY

Southern Barbarians have had a tough season, and it is a credit to their players that they have stuck the season out.

But they were always going to do it hard against a Goulburn team running on 7 cylinders (if you have a V8 Camaro) or 57 volts (if you have Bill’s 60 volt hybrid electrical dolphin friendly vehicle).

Yes, 7 cylinders, as after a week off last week, there is still plenty of work to do before the last game of the regular season next weekend.

But today was a day of firsts.

The ‘Bronc Rider’ Willoughby, first try for the team. Ever. Well deserved.

The Tush-a-nator – first try for the season.

Toby ‘The Mad Thing’ Moller- first try for the season.

Connor Hughes, surviving one of the more painful ‘splits’ ever seen on a footy field, and after an unselfish pass from Curly Joe, also crossed – well done Big Unit.

NBT did a SBW and burrowed over to score after some great lead up work.

Pat Craig was everywhere to score 3, while Josh Evans, who can sniff out a try from Grabben Gullen scored a season high 4 tries in a game.

Tom Skeffington, first game back from a busted knuckle, crossed after a bustling run.

Charlie Moroney scored a great intercept try to get the ball rolling and went on to crack the century for points scored this year.

We just have Simon ‘The Snake’ Leach to cross for a ‘meatie’ and all the boys have scored this season. It won’t be long before the Snake slithers over.

The fullback was having nightmares after the kicking game put on by Goulburn, with the backs creating havoc whenever they touched the ball.

The boys in the engine room who didn’t score- Bustling Benny, Willy Bog-Trot, Small Charlie, Brendan ‘O, O, O for O’Rourke’ , Curly Joe, The Snake and Bailey ‘12ft Tinny’ ( he’s nearly a Shipp- next year when he grows a bit)- all worked hard to set a platform for the backs.

Seth ‘No hickey today’ Kennedy was great again at fullback, while Captain Seaman, despite an enforced rest, fed the backs well.

The pleasing thing about an 82-0 score line is that the team did it as humbly as possible and with great respect to the opposition- it is never fun being belted; Goulburn played a very sportsmanlike game today, playing with 12 men for substantial periods of the game.

Thanks to Matty T and Josh ‘it’s not a Mustang’ Clark for running water.

Coach Bill (coach Mick was on sabbatical at the Festival of the Old Boy in Bathurst) was well satisfied with the win, which secured a grand final appearance in two weeks. The boys still need to work on the ‘chirp’ , that is, there needs to be less of it. Back-chatting a ref will cost a game one day.

A great way to finish off the regular season next Saturday with a home game against Marist.

Thanks to the many parents and friends who attended today, and thanks to the linesmen and ref.
