Dirty Red Paige Penning makes Brumbies Super W training squad

Goulburn Womens player Paige Penning has been selected in the Brumbies Super W training squad.

Paige was part of a Goulburn contingent to contest the trials along with Sass Cudaj and Ellen Anable.

In making it through to the Training Squad, Peg follows in the footsteps of Ash Kara who was a regular fixture in the Brumbies Super W starting sides last season.

The Brumbies Women’s Super W squad has taken a step closer to being finalised following a successful trial weekend held at Brumbies HQ in the University of Canberra.

Over eighty prospective players attended the trials, overseen by new Head Coach Adam Butt aiming to gain selection into the squad that will represent the Brumbies in the second iteration of the national women’s competition.

An initial squad of 43 players have been identified by Butt and his coaching staff off the back of the trials with the numbers due to be cut down after the first four-week pre-season training block.

“The squad we have put together is really strong and with the talent we have left out it really shows the depth we had to choose from,” Head Coach Adam Butt commented.

“We have some experienced players blended with new and exciting talent which will hopefully provide a strong core for the future. Congratulations to the players who made the squad, to those who missed out I encourage them to continue to train and work hard as you never know when an opportunity will present itself.

“I would like to thank all the players, coaches and medical team for all their efforts on Sunday especially those who travelled. The trials were hard fought, and I commend all the players on the effort and professionalism they showed on the day.

“We had a large turnout of around 85 players which shows the interest in this competition and the future of Super W is looking bright. The players made selections difficult which is great thing for the game and I know there will be some disappointed players out there.”

The Brumbies Super W campaign begins with a bang as the team line-up for a double-header at GIO Stadium on Friday 15 February prior to the Brumbies Super Rugby season kick-off against the Rebels.

The Super W side commence their season by welcoming NSW to the Capital for Round 1 in what will be their third match at the Stadium. Information on match tickets for all Super W matches will be announced in due course.
