Brumbies Provincial Championships comes to Goulburn

Brumbies Provincial Championships comes to Goulburn

It may be the long weekend, but it’ll be a huge day of rugby in Goulburn this Saturday, when the Brumbies Provincial Championships comes to town.

And to make it even better, 18 Goulburn Rugby players have earned selection in the Monaro Rugby men’s and women’s representative sides.

Nine men earned selection in the Monaro side to take on Far South Coast and Southern Inland. Nine women were also picked for Monaro to play Southern Inland, however Bella Sheen was a withdrawal due to injury.

The selections continue off the field, with Goulburn Women’s manager Megan Penning and Goulburn club strapper Courtney Leary bringing their expertise in these roles to the Monaro Women.

In encouraging signs for women’s rugby in Goulburn, a number of Trinity Catholic College Junior Rugby Union Club girls have been picked for the Monaro South Coast junior representative sides. These girls have been training with the Goulburn women throughout the season, and while they won’t be playing in Goulburn on Saturday, we wish them well.

Over the course of the day, three men’s teams (South Coast, Southern Inland and Monaro), will play in a round robin competition featuring one 40 minute period against each opposition.

The Monaro side is a genuine representative pathway for men and women, with the best 30 or so players from the Provincial Championship tournament will be selected to form the Brumbies Country Squads (men and women) to advance to the Brumbies City v Country tournament.

The best players from the City v Country tournament will be selected to form the Griffins (men) and Kestrels (female) squads who will go on to play other states in the Australian Rugby Shield.

It will be a full day of rugby, and here’s the draw:
