Happy Sunday,
It was a big weekend for Goulburn Rugby, hosting our first seniors home round of the year and with the opening night of this year’s Fizzy Reds season.
For the seniors it was once again a weekend of mixed results. The women, still struggling to assemble numbers for the XVs competition after the highs of an undefeated premiership in 10s, suffered their worst loss, while second grade had a confident win after last week’s last minute loss, and the firsts dominated Wests for back to back wins this season. All of this played out against a weekend in which the club paid tribute to two of the club’s greats – John Tilley and Terry Tilden. Anyway, we’ve got a lot to get through, so let’s get to the rugby.

Juniors
Each week we would like to include match reports, pics, social media or ANYTHING from the junior games. If you can message me at cgordon1965@gmail.com or on Facebook (I’m easy to find) and I’ll try to include what I can here. And even if you send me today, I will continue to update this story as things come in. Here’s a story for starters.
Under 10s & U12s

Fizzy 12’s team photo. No player of the match because coach John “Chucka” Thrower wanted to give it to the team as a whole for a tough collective effort.

Photo: Under 10’s player of the match Klohe Cameron. First game of contact sport carried the ball with intent and followed on field instruction like a veteran.
It was a good start for Fizzy 10s and 12s with coaches having to split resources to cover both teams.
The loss of a bit of experience to 10s left 12s short and exposed out wide resulting in a loss to the Crookwell pups.
The 10s faired better drawing with Braidwood Redbacks and losing on the full time whistle to Pups. Both teams played positively and showed great Reds sportsmanship.
Fizzy 10s are still in need of numbers and would welcome any kids that want to give rugby a try experience not necessary.

ACT Women’s Premiership: The women’s side are still finding their feet in the Women’s Premier XVs competition, and having less than XV players available for both matches this year hasn’t helped. They came up against a well-drilled, red-hot Wests team on Saturday and lost by 100-0, the worst result by a Goulburn Women’s team so far.
ACT Third Grade: First grade continued their winning streak with a second W, this time at home and against Wests. While they still have a lot of work to do, their 60-10 win against Wests was emphatic and included nine unanswered tries from the 21st minute until the end of the game.
ACT Fourth Grade: After coming so close last week, it was a relief and some vindication for their efforts when the Dirty Twos took the win against Wests by 24-5. Like first grade, it was a bonus point win and included a four try haul and showed plenty of potential for the year ahead.
