Happy Sunday,
This weekend the men were back on the road, playing Uni-Norths at ANU North Oval in Turner, while the women weren’t able to get the numbers together for an away game against Batemans Bay. Both men’s sides were very much a chance to win until late in their games and hopefully will go that extra step next week when they meet Wests at the Canberra High School Oval. Having a horrible year with numbers is cruelling the women’s season but hopefully they can get some players on the paddock to experience a few more games, starting with the match against Hall next weekend.
Now let’s get to the Rugby.
Juniors
Each week we would like to include match reports, pics, social media or ANYTHING from the junior games. If you can message me at cgordon1965@gmail.com or on Facebook (I’m easy to find) and I’ll try to include what I can here. Even if you send it to me today, I will continue to update this story as things come in.

ACT Third Grade: This was very disappointing for the firsts. By half-time they were up 19-7 against the competition leaders, Uni-Norths. That’s a hell of an accomplishment, and I’d be surprised if any other team had that sort of start against them this year. But the Owls never dropped their bundle and set to the task of coming back. They put on four second half tries to Goulburn’s one. With 14 minutes to go, scores were still level. With six minutes left on the clock, Owls finally took the lead and kept it until full time. Some options, and at least one brain explosion proved costly but the Reds at least now know that there is no team in the competition beyond their capacity.
ACT Fourth Grade: Big finishes can make a close match look like it wasn’t. In this match, Goulburn held the owls tryless for 28 minutes before Uni scored a try. But then the Dirty Twos replied and at the break, one try each. The Owls were first to score in the second half as well and, again, Goulburn responded and it remained two tries a piece right up until 8 minutes from full-time. But just as in first grade, the Owls put in more tries in that final slice of game time and finished with a 22-10 win. There was a lot to like in the Goulburn performance including some of their best defence of the year. The result was Uni-Norths fourths second lowest score of the season, and was a performance to be proud of. Hopefully the Dirty Twos will keep that momentum and go one better next weekend.
ACT Women’s 10s: The Goulburn women’s team forfeited to Batemans Bay, which is recorded as a 28-0 win for the Bay.
