Happy Sunday,
This weekend we finally got three senior games on the paddock. Again, mixed results, with the Women returning to the field after many weeks off for a loss to Jindabyne, and both men’s sides having confidence building wins at home against Queanbeyan.
This year the club has welcomed many young players to the senior sides… this may in fact be the youngest average age we’ve had for years… and here’s one nice anecdote arising from that. Bobby Remington is just 16 years old (she turns 17 shortly) and received dispensation to play in our senior women’s side. Not only did she prove she’s every bit good enough to play in that grade with a strong first up performance in seniors, she scored a try on debut! Great stuff, and thanks to all of the players who have boosted our numbers this year, particularly in the men’s sides.
Yesterday was also Sponsors Day, and it gave the club the opportunity once again to thank the businesses and individuals who make it possible for our players to take the field each week and play the game they play in Heaven. Without the Sponsors there would be no Goulburn Rugby, it’s that simple, and we truly thank your for your generosity and support all year round.
Now let’s get to the Rugby.
Juniors
Each week we would like to include match reports, pics, social media or ANYTHING from the junior games. If you can message me at cgordon1965@gmail.com or on Facebook (I’m easy to find) and I’ll try to include what I can here. Even if you send it to me today, I will continue to update this story as things come in.

ACT Third Grade: After winning the first two rounds of the season, only to be followed by a dispiriting three game losing streak, the Goulburn Dirty Reds first grade side with a confident 31-12 win against the previously undefeated Queanbeyan Whites. Up until the last 17 minutes of the match, Goulburn had run in five unanswered tries against Queanbeyan. But the Whites never threw in the towel and kept challenging until the end with two tries to wrap up the game, including one on full time. This is the form Goulburn will need going into next weekend’s match against competition leaders the Uni-Norths Owls at ANU North Oval.
ACT Fourth Grade: Slow-start syndrome may have been the problem for the last few weeks, but definitely not in the Dirty Twos 32-16 win over Queanbeyan Whites. Goulburn’s second graders were first to score and by the break held a slender 17-14 lead. With seven minutes on the clock and Goulburn leading 29-26 there was still only three points in it until a Connor Minehan penalty goal extended the result to 32-26. Next weekend Goulburn’s seconds will take on second placed Uni-Norths at ANU North Oval.
ACT Women’s 10s: After weeks of waiting on the sidelines and frothing to get back into the rugby, the Dirty Reds Women submitted a strong performance but weren’t able to topple competition co-leaders Jindabyne Miss Piggies. Jindabyne were comfortable 47-20 victors in the end but the match will do wonders for match fitness and getting ride of ring rust for the women who next play Bateman’s Bay down in the Bay next weekend.
