The Men’s 1st grade side will join the women’s team as 2023 grand finalists after their 33-23 win over Tuggeranong at Viking Park on Saturday. It was an encouraging turnaround from the 38-35 loss to the same team last weekend on Poidevin Oval, and even more pleasing following last year’s grand final loss to Tuggeranong on Vikings field #2. Men’s 1st grade will head up the road to Canberra in two weeks to contest the premiership, while the women play next Saturday for the ACT Women’s 10s title. And down the road our Crookwell cousins are keeping the second division dream alive and will meet Jindabyne in their grand final next weekend.

Juniors
Under 10s – Goulburn v Braidwood

Fizzy Red’s secured third place in a tough end of season battle against Braidwood Redbacks.
After conceding three tries in the first 10mins, the Goulburn boys and girls bit down on the mouth guards and showed great resilience to claw back and take the game nine tries to six.
Great forward play by Toby Thrower in the centre coupled with flyers out wide in Austin Cosgrove and Bailey Yoe sealed the win. Congratulations to the kids on their progress throughout the season. Many thanks to coach Chucka Thrower and the Goulburn Rugby committee for the season.

1st Grade: There were returning players (Cooper and Cunningham), there were players returning to positions they had played in for years (Webber at #12), an injured skipper and a few players MIA. But despite a few twists and turns, it was the most confident, assured Goulburn performance this year at the right end of the season a Goulburn accounted for minor premiers Tuggeranong Vikings by 33-23.
Normally I’ve been writing short two-paragraph match summaries of the men’s games in the Weekend Roundup but, as it’s a major semi-final, I risked writer’s cramp this week with a full-blown match report (click the link). The upshot, after a fully committed 70 minutes of football, first grade are through to the grand final in two weeks!!!
