Goulburn Rugby Roundup – Sunday, 1 June 2025

Above photo: Peter Oliver Imagery

Happy Sunday,

This weekend there were two games of senior rugby with our Men’s 1sts and 2nds seeing action against Uni-Norths on Poidevin Oval. Both sides were good chances of either winning or drawing with just a handful of minutes remaining, but both were beaten by the strong-finishing Owls. The women didn’t have a scheduled match due to a few teething problems in fitting them into the 10s competition, however all three senior sides will be back on deck in two weeks (next weekend is the long weekend) when the men’s sides will be home against the Queanbeyan Whites and the women will play the Jindabyne Miss Piggies at Griffith Oval in Canberra. Juniors is still roaring ahead and we’re seeing some great social shots of  the kids having a blast.

Juniors

Each week we would like to include match reports, pics, social media or ANYTHING from the junior games. If you can message me at cgordon1965@gmail.com or on Facebook (I’m easy to find) and I’ll try to include what I can here. Even if you send it to me today, I will continue to update this story as things come in.

ACT Third Grade: The Goulburn firsts were just two points behind with 8 minutes to go. Throughout the game up until that point the two sides had been trading try for try and were three tries a piece, with either side able to go on with it. In the end it was the strong finishing Owls that seized the opportunity, running in two late tries for an emphatic win.

ACT  Fourth Grade: Slow-start syndrome made for a tough assignment again for the Dirty Twos with the Owls running in three unanswered tries before half time. Goulburn definitely had the better of the second half, but sadly that statistic  doesn’t get a look in on the competition tables. Two rapid fire tries to Vereniki Naureure early in the second half closed the gap considerably and even after the Owls put on another try, Lachy Condylios’s response three minutes before full time put Goulburn within a converted try of equalising. But the Owls had one more try left in them, right on the bell, and finished with a handy 27-15 win.
