Big day planned at Rugby Park for Club’s 150th

There’ll be matches for all ages and some very special presentations at Rugby Park for the Goulburn Rugby Club’s 150th Anniversary Reunion on Saturday 22 October.

Young or old, male or female, player or supporter, there’ll be something for everyone as we celebrate 150 years since the club was first founded.

The Gameday will kick off at 9am with a match between the Goulburn U12s team and the Crookwell Pups U12s.

Next up, at 10.30am, two teams selected from mostly willing volunteers, and more than a few conscripts, will play in a golden-oldies match with Wallabies Simon Poidevin and Peter Lucas the two non-playing coaches. Mate against mate, Wallaby against Wallaby!

At midday, the premiership-winning Dirty Reds women will take on their rugby-playing frenemies from the Bungendore Mudchicks where a very committed match is expected to be followed by a very committed boat race. The Goulburn Women’s team will be wearing a replica of the 2020 jumper they wore in their first year of XVs rugby and these will be auctioned online.

Following that, as people are catching their breath and catching a bite to eat, there’ll be three very special presentations made and a stack of photos taken.

Three of the Hills at Rugby Park… the long hill along the northern edge of Klem Oval, the hill behind the scoreboard going down to Klem Oval and the Hill in front of the Club House looking on the Simon Poidevin Oval will allow be named after significant figures in the making of the Goulburn Rugby Club, with specially made signs to be unveiled.

The hill to the left of Klem Oval in this photo is one of the hills that will have a sign unveiled in honour of one of the greats of the club.

Next up, a series of photos will be taken on the Hill in front of the Clubhouse… all captains present, all presidents, all Life Members, all rep players, all Wallabies and so on.

The final match of the day, kicking off at 2pm, will be between the President’s XV, captained and chosen by club president Jackson Reardon, and the Invitational XV, captained and selected by Boyd Newby.

The President’s XV will be wearing replica jumpers of the 1957 jumper (white with a sky-blue V) worn by the Goulburn Rugby Club after years in hiatus, while the Invitational XV will wear replicas of the 1958 jumper (black with white collar).

Neither jumper has been struck since those years, and both full sets of collector-item jumpers, along with the women’s jumpers, will be available to bid on in an online auction. A link to the auction will be added here when it goes online.

After all of that rugby action on the paddock, and a bunch of catching up off the paddock has been completed, it will be time to head off, scrub up, and head out to Veolia Arena for the night’s sensational 150th Anniversary Reunion Ball.
